Donald Forth bicycling across the US to support wounded veterans
After two unsupported bicycling tours with his sons and participating in the ultra-distance Trans Am Bike Race, Don decided to blaze his own trail this year and do a 3,300 mile solo, unsupported bicycle ride from Santa Monica, CA to Yorktown, VA.
He will be following old Route 66 starting at the Pacific ocean, crossing California, the Mojave Desert, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and up into Missouri where he will pick up USBR 76 and continue across Illinois, Kentucky and Virginia to the Atlantic ocean (9 states in total).
There will be no support vehicles following Don. He will need to closely manage his food and water supply to not run out as there are long stretches with no access to food or water. He will be totally reliant on his own planning ability. His lodging will mainly consist of sleeping in a tent under the stars!
Don will be traveling light to allow for riding around 150 - 200 miles a day, which means just the clothes on his back and rain gear for inclement weather.
Each of the rides Don has done since 2013 have been to raise money and awareness for JCS. Don looks at these as a small way to give back to those who have sacrificed so much for our country and our freedom.
Don will carry a GPS tracker that will allow you to follow him as he makes his way across the U.S. Don will be flying to Santa Monica, California from St. Louis, Missouri on May 30th. You can follow Don on his blog and tracker by clicking here: https://donaldforth.weebly.com
